A Posh Pedestal for iPods

An audio enthusiast who wishes to connect an iPod to a high-end sound system may blanch when faced with one of the flimsy plastic iPod docks sold in most stores. The Art.Suono from David Wiener Ventures provides a much more elegant interface for Apple’s beloved portable music player. The $1,499 device extracts audio from all standard iPods and transmits it wirelessly to a receiver, which in turn connects to an audio system. Made from carbon fiber and five pounds of machined aluminum, the Art.Suono is far more substantial than a typical iPod dock. The aluminum volume knob alone weighs half a pound and floats on a two-inch roller bearing for exceptionally smooth operation. Proprietary DWC-Aphex audio processing helps enhance the iPod’s sound. Other audio sources, such as a computer or a CD player, can also be used. A red “engine start” button on the top gets the Art.Suono going.
