The Macallan Fine & Rare Vintage 1947

by

Legendary Speyside single malt The Macallan has come out with an extremely precious Fine & Rare Vintage 1947 edition for the ultimate celebratory tipple; but you have to act fast because only five bottles of the luxurious elixir will be available in the entire United States. The final price has not been announced, but the last time this vintage was available it cost around $7,000 a pop. The 15-year-old whisky was originally bottled in 1963; Macallan actually had to purchase the spirit from a noted collector of single malts as its own reserves had been exhausted long before.

Rested in meticulously selected Spanish Oak sherry casks for 15 years, The Macallan Fine & Rare 1947 owes its natural rich beech color to the wood. It has a peaty nose balanced by citrus fruit, chocolate and vanilla, with notes of oak in the background. Light fruits, bitter chocolate and woody spice, with a touch of peat, evidence themselves on the palate, with lingering fruits and peat smoke for the big finish.

The Macallan, founded in 1824, has set the gold standard for single malt Scotch. In 2007, a bottle of vintage 1926 Macallan was auctioned off at Christie’s for $54,000, making it one of the most expensive bottles of liquor ever sold.
