Classic Tie Knots: The Windsor

March 4, 2009

Drape the necktie around your collar and start with the wider end extending approximately 12 inches below the narrow end; cross it over.

Wrap the wide end around, and bring it up over and through the loop between the collar and the tie. Then pull it down toward the front.

Curl the wide end that is left behind the narrow end.

Bring the wide end back up again through the loop.

Put down through loop and pull around across narrow end as shown.

Bring the wide end up and tuck it through the loop a third time, and bring it back down to the front.

Finally, pull down on the wide end carefully to tighten and draw up the knot snugly to your collar.

If both ends don’t meet perfectly, simply start over and adjust the length of your tie accordingly. Make sure your collar falls nicely all around, and center the knot as best you can.

Lodger Footwear

March 4, 2009

Complementing the gorgeous suede navy brogue we highlighted some weeks back, Lodger Footwear is introducing a Monk Strap shoe from its Italian factory this month. The grey shade is called “Fango” and serves as a nice break from the doldrums of black.

How to Fold a Pocket Square: Part 13

March 4, 2009

The Three Stairs Pocket Square Fold

Lay your pocket square flat with one corner facing up and one corner facing down.

Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.

Fold the front fold partially down so that it goes past the bottom of the pocket square.

Now take the same fold and fold it back up towards the top of the pocket square.

Now fold back towards the bottom of the pocket square. Be sure and keep your folds neat.

Fold a small fold towards the top of the pocket square. You may want to gently press with an iron.

Pause, and take a look at your pocket square folds so far. It should look basically like the illustration.

Now this is a little tricky: fold the right half of the pocket square behind the left side.

You will still see the folds if done correctly.

Now rotate the righthand corner of the pocket square 90 degrees.

Then fold the left side to the right.

Fold the right side to the left and we are done.

Tuck as needed and place your pocket square in your jacket pocket.

Aston Martin One-77

March 4, 2009

Aston Martin fully revealed its ultimate car, the One-77 today at the Geneva Motor Show. Aston Martins have always been special but the One-77 takes it to a whole new level. The 6.0L V12 found in more “pedestrian” Astons has been expanded out to 7.3L and the output is now in excess of 700 hp with a top speed in excess of 200 mph. Apparently the only thing not in excess for this very special sports car is the production volumes. Only 77 examples will be built with a price tag well in excess of $1 million! No word yet on whether Daniel Craig will have one available for the next James Bond outing.

Linda Farrow x Damir Doma

March 4, 2009

Linda Farrow’s Projects line is a collection of the designer’s collaborations with some of menswear’s biggest names. Linda Farrow Projects x Damir Doma Wayfarers is my pick of the current crop, whose slightly cartoonish (but wearable) take on the Wayfarer shape is a welcome caricature of a style that’s lately (if understandably) become overfamiliar.

Edifice Jersey Jacket

March 4, 2009

Jersey has one of the catwalk trends, with designers like Band of Outsiders showing people how the right cut could make jersey as wearable as denim. Chunky knitwear has been big for a minute now, so pieces like this jersey jacket were the next logical step in the knitwear evolution process. This Edifice jacket is perfect for the upcoming spring days when any other coat would seem over the top.
