Malo Fall/Winter ’09

by

When you think of Malo, knitwear is probably the first thing that comes to mind. And for good reason: The Italian brand has been making high-quality cashmeres and woolens for more than 30 years. It hired Alessandro Dell’Acqua as design director, and for his just-unveiled Fall collection—his second with the company—he’s taken Malo’s staple items to new extremes, both technical and aesthetic. Cable knits sport uneven zigzag patterns, while marled wool cardigans are woven with up to eight colors. There are spray-paint effects and knit tartans, too, not to mention salmon-colored cords and cashmere sweatpants. It’s clear that Dell’Acqua is playing to a younger audience, though there’s still enough of the old Malo—think piped-knit blazers—to please its original demographic.
