Modern Seating by Hella Jongerius

Designer Hella Jongerius reminds us that the modern sofa does not need usual characteristics or symmetry to capture our attention. Her “Vitra Polder” sofa extends the typical lines of the modern sofa to a multi-colored asymmetrical seating surface with an emphasis on low, flat, and horizontal. This super retro-mod sofa consists of a wooden frame cushioned with foam and upholstered with a technical fabric that serves as a platform with four conspicuously voluminous, elongated cushions in five fabrics of coordinating colors. As the name may have implied the Polder was commissioned by Vitra in fabric or leather in various sizes with subtle features like contrasting stitching and buttons made from mother of pearl.
