A Tequila Hybrid

by

With all the different infused spirits made available recently, one might understandably be wary, if not downright scared, of what will come next. Rosangel, a new hibiscus-infused tequila from Gran Centenario, assuages those fears with a restrained and sophisticated spirit that reminds us that not all fusions are folly. The hibiscus lends a welcome floral note to the agave —in this case, Highland blue agave that is baked for three days in clay ovens. The pale pink spirit has nose of apple, cherry, with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the fruit notes give way to perfume and flowers and finally to a gentle and prolonged finish. Priced at $40 for a 750 ml bottle, it will give an oft-enjoyed cocktail new depth and character.
